A Beacon of Warmth for UBC’s Residential Neighbourhoods

Corix’s Neighbourhood District Energy System (NDES) has been providing safe, reliable heating and domestic hot water to portions of the UBC residential community since 2015. By sharing energy efficiently across several buildings, the system provides efficient, cost-effective and environmentally friendly energy to 21 buildings in the Wesbrook neighbourhood.

An Environmentally Responsible Solution

District energy systems share energy efficiently across multiple buildings — reducing energy usage and saving emissions.
The NDES was identified as a key part of UBC’s Community Energy and Emissions Plan to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The system currently uses natural gas as the fuel source, with low-carbon options under evaluation for implementation by 2025.

Mainly water vapour, and carbon dioxide and small amounts of particulate.

A combination of air-source heat pumps, electric boilers, renewable natural gas (RNG) and waste heat recovery are currently being evaluated for implementation in 2025.

Our customers expect reliability. Corix uses advanced monitoring technology called SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) to monitor, gather and process real-time data for our local and remote operations.

The system sensors provide constant updates about the equipment, allowing the team to identify and troubleshoot issues immediately and mitigate or prevent downtime for our customers. Our systems have built-in redundancy, so they can continue to operate using backup sources and equipment.

If there is an outage or emergency, please call our 24/7 customer support at 1-844-852-5651.
