Corix's 17th Annual Golf for Kids Charity Classic Raises Record-Breaking $600,000

Sep 14, 2015

100% of funds raised will benefit children in need

VICTORIA, BC – On September 12, 2015, Corix hosted its 17th Annual Golf for Kids Charity Classic at the Westin Bear Mountain Golf Resort and Spa in Victoria, BC.

Through the commitment and generosity of sponsors, players, volunteers, and philanthropists, this day-long event raised $600,000, breaking last year’s record of $550,000. One hundred percent of this money is dedicated to supporting children and their families where there is a need.

Some of the recipients of past year’s events include the Arthritis Society, Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland, Canucks Autism Network, Scouts Canada, Victoria Hospitals Foundation, Raise-a-Reader, and KidSport.

Help Fill a Dream Foundation – a Victoria-based charity that provides hope, help, and happiness for Vancouver Island children with life-threatening conditions – is once again the tournament’s primary beneficiary. It will receive a significant donation to help some special children realize their personal ‘dream,’ which may be a once-in-a-lifetime experience or a support that allows them to live better with their condition.

Helping Children and their Families

During the opening ceremonies, tournament participants heard from Kathy Segriff about her family’s experiences after Golf for Kids and Help Fill a Dream granted her son, Nikko, his dream of a family trip to Maui. During her emotional presentation, she explained how Nikko’s chronic lung disease has affected him and her family. She expressed how the trip allowed them to feel like a normal, healthy family. It’s a feeling that most families take for granted, but one that hers seldom experiences.

“Nikko’s mom set the stage for our fundraiser with her remarkable speech,” said Murray Stewart, Co-Host of the Golf for Kids Tournament and Vice President of Corix Water Products, West. “Her words were so moving. We genuinely felt what her family has been going through while coping with Nikko’s illness.”

Kathy’s sincere gratitude reminded the crowd that, while their generosity helps to make the dreams of young children come true, it also enables families to enjoy the glow of their happiness and excitement – and experience a sense of hope. In addition to the significant amount of money raised through raffles, live and silent auctions, this year’s Golf for Kids participants responded enthusiastically to Kathy’s encouraging and uplifting words: during the evening banquet, they helped fill the dreams of eight more children who are facing similar adversities.

As we welcomed Corix management and staff members –and their spouses and children – we watched them all become an integral part of our organization. Their dedication to supporting children who have life-threatening conditions is remarkable. Their professionalism is accompanied by great compassion, and we are extremely grateful for their generosity.”

Thank You

Dale Douglas, Co-Host of the Golf for Kids Tournament and Vice President of Corporate Development at Corix, recognizes the large group of people that works together – both to make this event a success and to give the kids the help they need. “Thank you so much to the many sponsors, participants, and volunteers that work together to make the Golf for Kids tournament such a fantastic event! The Westin Bear Mountain and its great staff deserve special thanks for their ongoing commitment to the event and the children it supports,” he said. “It’s one thing to raise the money, but it’s another to see how the charities we support use those funds to change lives. It’s truly humbling to see the difference that we can make in people’s lives.”
