VICTORIA, BC — Thanks to the commitment and generosity of sponsors, players, volunteers, and philanthropists, Corix’s 18th Annual Golf for Kids Charity Classic has raised $700,000 for children in need, surpassing last year’s record of $600,000.
The tournament was held on September 10, 2016 at the Westin Bear Mountain Golf Resort and Spa in Victoria, BC.
Thirty families who have had their child’s dreams filled by the Help Fill A Dream Foundation attended the opening ceremony for the 18th Annual Golf for Kids Charity Classic, demonstrating the impact donations have on the community.
Cause for celebration
The tournament’s primary beneficiary, Help Fill a Dream Foundation, celebrated its 30-year anniversary at the opening ceremony. Thirty families, who have had their child’s dreams fulfilled by the foundation over the years, were in attendance to help demonstrate the impact donations have on the community.
“Thanks to events like Golf for Kids, we’ve never had to say ‘no’ to filling a dream,” said Craig Smith, Help Fill a Dream Foundation Executive Director. “This year we were able to fill a record-breaking 10 dreams on the floor.”
The dreams filled at this year’s event included a trip to the Caribbean for snorkeling, a visit to Apple and Google headquarters, and several trips to Disneyworld and Disneyland.
Based in Victoria, the Help Fill a Dream Foundation provides hope, help and happiness for Vancouver Island children with life-threatening conditions. Corix’s donation will help fund the foundation’s efforts to provide once-in-a-lifetime experiences and support to children in need.
Supporting communities where we work and live
“It’s really quite amazing how a group of motivated people, with a common cause, can come together to make the impossible – possible,” said Dale Douglas, co-host for the Golf for Kids tournament and Vice President of Corporate Development at Corix. “Guided only by their hearts and community spirit, their efforts allow us to donate to organizations that are able to truly make a difference in the lives of children and their families.”
Funds raised are dedicated to local charities and programs including the Help Fill a Dream Foundation, Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland, the Arthritis Society, Scouts Canada, KidSport, Raise-a-Reader, Canucks Autism Network, and Victoria Hospitals Foundation.
